Annual Physical Exam
A comprehensive yearly checkup to protect your health, catch problems early, and keep you feeling your best — all in one visit.
Request an AppointmentWhy Annual Physicals Matter
Many serious health conditions — high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and even certain cancers — develop silently, without obvious symptoms. By the time you feel something is wrong, the condition may already be advanced. An annual physical exam is your best defense: it gives your doctor a complete picture of your health every year, so problems can be caught and treated early, when outcomes are best.
At Manatee Primary Care in Bradenton, Dr. Milian, MD, CWSP uses your annual physical to review your medical history, update your medications, order appropriate lab work, perform preventive screenings, and build a personalized plan to keep you healthy in the year ahead. It is also the right time to discuss any concerns you have been putting off — from fatigue and weight changes to mental health and sleep.
The American Academy of Family Physicians and the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force both recommend annual preventive visits for adults. Most insurance plans, including Medicare, cover these visits at no out-of-pocket cost.

Recommended Blood Work
Lab work is one of the most valuable parts of your annual physical. Blood tests can detect conditions that have no outward symptoms — often years before complications develop. Dr. Milian orders labs based on your age, sex, medical history, and risk factors. Common panels include:
Manatee Primary Care has in-house lab capabilities and partners with Quest Diagnostics for a full range of panels. Results are typically available within 1–3 business days, and Dr. Milian will review them with you directly.
Adult Preventive Screenings
Preventive screenings are tests that look for disease before symptoms appear. Your annual physical is the right time to confirm you are up to date on all age-appropriate screenings. Dr. Milian follows U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) guidelines and will order or refer you for:
Vaccinations for Adults
Vaccines are not just for children. Adults need regular immunizations to stay protected against serious infections. During your annual physical, Dr. Milian will review your vaccination history and recommend any vaccines that are due or overdue. Commonly recommended adult vaccines include:
Annual Physical vs. Medicare Annual Wellness Visit
If you are on Medicare, it is important to understand the difference between these two visits — they are separate benefits and serve different purposes.
| Annual Physical Exam | Medicare Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) | |
|---|---|---|
| Physical exam | Full head-to-toe exam | Not included |
| Health risk assessment | Yes | Yes — detailed questionnaire |
| Cognitive screening | Basic | Structured cognitive assessment |
| Personalized prevention plan | Yes | Yes — written plan required |
| Advance care planning | Optional | Included |
| Medicare coverage | Part B (may have cost-share) | Part B — $0 cost-share |
| Frequency | Annually | Once per calendar year (after first year on Medicare) |
Many Medicare patients choose to schedule both visits in the same year. Dr. Milian can perform both on the same day or separately, depending on your needs and insurance coverage. We will help you understand what your plan covers before your visit.

Insurance Coverage
Manatee Primary Care accepts most major insurance plans. Annual preventive exams are covered at no cost to you under the Affordable Care Act when you see an in-network provider. This means no copay and no deductible for the preventive portion of your visit.
Important note: If you bring up a new medical problem or receive treatment for an existing condition during the same visit, your insurance may bill that portion as a separate sick visit — which may be subject to your copay or deductible. We will always be transparent about how your visit is being coded.
No insurance? No problem. We offer straightforward self-pay pricing with no hidden fees:
$85
New Patient Visit
